The most impactful work we can do for ourselves and future generations is to build governance systems capable of long-term planning with intergenerational justice and proactive problem solving in mind. The first step to creating long-term governance systems is the same as any building – there must be a solid foundation. Healthy, robust democracies are the best option to ensure our institutions work for the interest of the whole well into the future.
We must start to build this strong foundation now by ensuring that our democracy is a system that works for everybody – now and in the future.
In order to create governance systems that can effectively plan for the future, we need to make the system work for those alive today. This includes reforming democracy in the United States, expanding democracy abroad, and developing international institutions.
