We need governance systems that allow for proactive and
intergenerational planning

We cannot simply react to the existential crises that put humanity at risk. As we accelerate in our development, we must look further ahead to recognize challenges and make course adjustments well in advance. We cannot know what challenges humanity may face in 500 or 1,000 years, but we can equip future generations with the means to address those challenges as they arise, or to avoid them completely, by governing with foresight.

Our institutions must be able to take on policy that is well beyond the next election or budget cycle. There is some discussion of new institutions or modifications to current institutions to bring future generations into the policy process. While these currently are mainly conversations in academic circles, Founding Citizens is working to expand the conversation and further develop what ideas may be beneficial.
